The Town of Morrison is a true area gem! This small town sits at the base of the foothills on the far west side of the metro area. Although the population living inside the actual town is listed at only about 500, many of the residents in the surrounding area of unincorporated Jefferson County identify with this beautiful location. The lively, historic downtown area is filled with quaint shopping, fun restaurants and lots of riverside activities. Red Rocks Amphitheater, one of the most famous outdoor concert venues anywhere in the country, and its surrounding park with its towering red Rock formations is right up against the town. Morrison gained international acclaim during the 19th century with the significant dinosaur discoveries that were found at Dinosaur Ridge, a National Natural Landmark and one of the top dinosaur track sites anywhere in the United States. Visitors to the area are treated with the sight of hundreds of Jurassic-era dinosaur footprints and bones. Bandimere Speedway is nearby. Its quarter-mile dragstrip is the scene of the best drag racing in the metro area. One of Colorado’s most distinctive restaurants, The Fort, is also in town. In addition to being known as the place to visit for the best “Rocky Mountain Oysters,” the Fort was also the host of President Bill Clinton’s state dinner when Colorado was the site of the 1997 “Summer of the Eight.” Morrison’s home values are a bit unique from the others metro area cities that are close to the mountains such as Golden and Boulder. Home values are not nearly as high as each of those area, but they aren’t appreciating quite as rapidly, either.
