Located just 30 minutes south of Denver, Castle Rock continues to emphasize its small-town character. Named after the distinctive, fortress-shaped butte visible near the middle of the town, Castle Rock is home to just over 75,000 residents and serves as the county seat for Douglas County. The town was founded in 1874 and traces its roots to the mining and railroad activity that was happening in the area during that time. The city has more than 6,000 acres of open space that includes 87 miles of trails and 50 well-planned parks. Money Magazine has ranked Castle Rock on its list of Best Places to live multiple times, most recently in 2019 when it landed at #40. The town is comprised primarily of suburban areas surrounding the vibrant downtown area with an attractive list of restaurants, breweries, and shopping destinations. The Outlets at Castle Rock, Colorado’s largest open-air outlet shopping experience, has been voted as the best outlet shopping center in Colorado each year since 2015. The availability of land in the area has made Castle Rock a destination for many new home builders. Home values continue to rise but are still competitive with many metro area suburbs. Castle Rock has a wide diversity of residential choices, from condos, townhomes and single-family homes priced in the low $300,000 to homes in gated communities such as Castle Pines with prices well above $2 million.
